Charakter

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Ilatraia is a real beauty and one of the only wines that has taken on the challenges of this hot and dry vintage with undisputed results. Ilatraia opens to an inky dark appearance and thick phenolic weight that is given extra volume and depth thanks to layers of cherry, dried blackberry and plum. This is a full-bodied red wine worthy of a big Fiorentina steak (Robert Parker).

Geschichte

Nebst dem Weingut Brancaia in Chianti Classico besitzt die Familie Widmer seit 1998 das Weingut Brancaia in Maremma. Dieses wird wie das Weingut in Chianti von der Tochter Barbara und ihrem Mann Martin Kronenberg-Widmer geführt.
Das Weingut liegt südöstlich von Grosseto, ca. 12 km vom Meer entfernt, und gehört zum Anbaugebiet von Morellino di Scansano. Die Rebfläche umfasst rund 40 Hektar. Davon sind 45% mit Sangiovese, 30% mit Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% mit Petit Verdot, 15% mit Cabernet Franc und Merlot bepflanzt. Die erste Ernte haben Barbara und Martin Kronenberg-Widmer im Jahr 2000 eingebracht.
